Mini Steps
Even more common than jumping in games is moving and there are so many ways to do it as games like Mini Steps will show us. The slimes are continuing their adventures to explore the contained and limited spaces that they can reach. Of course, it all comes down to what they're able to do and this pink slime may be among the lucky and more mobile ones. It's stepping out into the world with a bunch of little hopes to seek a fortune. It may be a short journey, but's also a dangerous one and you need to be careful not to have the pink slime's next step be its last.
About Mini Steps
Movement is one of the core aspects of any game and if it doesn't work then a majority of the game can't be played. In this game it's not just about moving well, it's about moving wisely. Every move is like placing a piece on the board, it's making a decision to get the slime to a very specific spot. The controls and response make each move sharp and precise so there's little room for error and that's how it should be in a pocket-sized platform game. The level is the board and the slime is the little piece that you have to get across it.
How to Play
Mini Steps is a 2D puzzle platform game about a slime hopping around using the keyboard. The slime has the ability to hope left or right using the A/Left Arrow and D/Right Arrow respectively. It also has the power to jump straight up using the W/Up Arrow. When it isn't jumping, the slime is perched on whatever platform it's on. The goal of each level is to navigate the slime so that it collects all the coins. You can select the Speerun option from the main menu to test your skills.
The slime has a pretty long horizontal hop, being able to clear large gaps and jump over platforms with ease. When the slime hits a wall or a solid object, it will stop and then fall until it hits a surface. The vertical jump can be used to jump to a platform directly above the slime or to avoid any traps that it might be standing on. The main obstacles that it has to avoid are spikes and fire barrels. The former can be plated on any surface while the latter will be on the ground or on platforms. Fire will spurt out at regular intervals, but the barrels are safe to stand on in between spurts. If the slime touches any spikes or fire, you'll have to restart the level.
Tips and Tricks
Use the first few levels to get a real feel for the distance and arc of the slime's jumps. From then on, observe any tight spaces that you can use to change the placement of your jumps. Try to move in sync with the fire spurts if you can.
